The 2nd South Petherton Scout Group consists of a Cub Pack and a Scout Troop which serve South Petherton and a number of smaller villages in South Somerset. Their meeting place — a timber-clad building which previously saw long service at Taunton Racecourse — was purchased by the Scout Group after a long campaign of fund raising, and was relocated to South Petherton Recreation Ground 20 years ago.
However, it has become increasingly expensive to maintain and to heat, and the Scouts, together with the Out-of-School Club who also regularly meet there, now want to replace it with a purpose-built hall that would also be a suitable venue for the many general clubs and societies which serve the community of South Petherton.
We aim to start building work in the Spring of 2011, so that the new Hut will be ready for use by the Autumn.
NEW, PERMANENT BUILDING:
• reduced maintenance*, lower running costs
FULL DISABLED FACILITIES:
• including wheelchair access and low-level kitchen surfaces
CLIMBING WALL:
can be hired out to suitably qualified users
INCREASED SPACE IN MAIN HALL
IMPROVED FACILITIES:
- an ideal venue for clubs and societies
• make the hall more suitable for occasional hire (eg children’s parties)
• better facilities for the Out-of-School Club
UNDERFLOOR HEATING:
• more efficient*, quiet operation, nothing projecting into the hall
ENLARGED STORAGE AREA:
with tent-drying facilities
IMPROVED SECURITY
* We plan to make the new building as eco-friendly as possible with every aspect geared to minimising its impact on the environment.
With the right support,
